It's a website-y / magaziny / bloggy thing.
It's about fitness - proper fitness.

Too many people don't train - of those who do - only a tiny percentage do this properly.
Most, unfortunately, train like brainless maniacs and do as much harm to themselves as they do good.
This magazine is designed to promote proper fitness and those who study and teach it.
This mag is designed to help you train hard and smart. You need this.
There is a lot of good quality info available these days, there is also a boat load of Bullsh*t and nonsense. This mag is designed to promote, break down and add to the quality info side of things.
The good info out there is often boring, hard to find or written for the educated (hopefully) minds of personal trainers/strength coaches. This is for the average joe who wants to train smart, have a laugh, learn a few things and have a nice day.

It's basically just training smart. We don't live and move how we evolved to move and live. As a result, we are messed up. The fitness industry is sadly marketing driven rather than logic driven. Hence we spend hours training on CV machines, fixed weight machines and and following fads and nonsense. This is not good.
Proper fitness is simply about training to restore quality movement to our bodies, then building physique and performance goals on top of that. Proper fitness is about doing things for sound logical reasons.

Originally the plan was to have many new articles every week, hundreds of video clips covering all training methods, all sports and pump out huge volumes of content. Unfortunately, although great strides were made, the budget was small and we never quite got the content volume required and never quite launched properly.
I ran out of energy and spent all my money on bacon, steak and coffee. We came a long way but the magazine ground to a bit of a halt in 2011. But, to the relief of tens of people it didn't die.

Fortunately, the site looks pretty good - its still fun to run and people still like getting involved now and again. So More-Athletic Magazine lives on in a more chilled manner.
It may one day grow into a monster, it may remain a fun side project. Who knows.
For this year, I'm making fun useful content - when I want to. Me hope you likey. If not, fine. It's your problem, not mine.

We have a Facebook fan page - posting nonsense - tip of the day (some days)
We tweet random wisdom. Sometimes.
We got a Store - you can purchase stuff if you want to. Then you can wear it to look cool.
Want to sign up to the email newsletter? - Tough shit. I don't have one.

Tom is a fan of fitness.
He started this magazine.
He is a thief.
He is writing this in the third person even though he is writing it himself.
He is not an expert - but he is an expert.
He is also a personal trainer.
He is on a mission to promote and coach proper fitness, to bring a smart common sense, no cheese, no fluff, no nonsense approach to as many people as possible in order to help them get More-Athletic.

Huge Thanks goes out to those who have contributed to the magazine:
Nat Pero - With a degree in Sport and Exercise Science and 8 years of personal training behind him Nat makes a useful addition to the team. With many years of muscle building action under his belt, Nat has been ordered to become a kettlebell master and is bringing us a well rounded look at training. Take a look at his site www.firebladefitness. Not only has Nat never ever missed a scheduled workout in his life, but he hasn't even missed a scheduled rep.
David Fleming - David Fleming is one of London’s top strength and conditioning coaches. He has studied and learned from the best strength coaches in the world. He is happily married and can lift heavy weights. His mother is very proud of him and he writes a good article. It took him until the age of 30 to pass his driving test, but other than that he is a solid chap.
Peter Chown - Pete is a natural bodybuilding champ and always worth listening to. 2006 INBA Natural Mr Universe and 2005 INBF World Heavyweight Champ – and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He is huge, muscular, ripped and strong and does not inject steroids into his ass, his arm or his eyeballs. He just works damn hard and eats right. He will not get all fancy and technical; he is just here to tell us what to do and how to do it. He knows what works. We like this.
Andrew Stemler - Andrew is a little different to most of our team. He is older. He is also very aware of what it is to become More-Athletic. A sedentary chap in 1997, at age 37, he gave up a life devoted to cigarettes (a 100 a day habit) and began getting fit. Since then he has amassed a huge list of certifications, has embarked on a Sports Science Degree and has become London’s first level II CrossFit trainer. He’s a huge advocate of the CrossFit method, but still very much his own man. He is constantly studying and looking to improve coaching standards and is a great addition to the team. Although he does tend to wear a neck scarf that most people think doesn’t suit him. Check out CrossFit London at www.crossfitlondonuk.com for more from Andrew and his team.
James White- James is a young guy but my is he strong! – He started out as a Powerlifter and has competed for Great Britain on numerous occasions. He holds British and Commonwealth records and was 2007 British Junior Powerlifting Champion. Recently he has decided it is not enough to be able to simply shift huge weights, he wants to hurt people as well. He is now dedicated to learning the sport of mixed martial arts and intends to make his competitive debut in the near future. He is a highly knowledgeable personal trainer, and is also studying osteopathy. See his personal sites at www.build-muscle-burn-fat.com and James Whites Personal Training
Paul McCambridge - Paul is no average personal trainer. Find an article, an idea, a course or any other fitness concept and Paul has done it, read it and can tell you all about it. From a degree in Sport Science to studying from the worlds best coaches, Paul is on a constant mission to find out everything he can about how to get stronger, fitter, leaner and healthier. He is also a food detective! If you can't digest, or can't get lean, he wants your blood!.. He will send it to the lab and sort you out. However, he is rumoured to be both a bad loser and a bad guitar player. You can hunt him down on his Facebook page.
Martin Lewis- Martin is a gifted athlete and has a huge brain. Not only did he graduate from Loughborough University with a 1st class degree in Sports and Exercise Sciences, he can run very fast for a long time. He currently spends his time studying for a PHD in Simulation Modelling (we don't know what it is either) as well as continuing to train hard. He is an expert in endurance training and has experience of training with elite skinny dudes. He will though, completely ignore you if you go to support him in the London Marathon so I wouldn't bother if I were you.
Scott Laidler – Scott really doesn’t mess around. He brings an all business approach to his training. Work hard, shut up and get it done. He has a background in Psychology and brings a great focus to all that he does. Check out his articles if you need to get focused or to work harder, shut up and get it done. His site - www.project-fitness.co.uk
Patrick Dale - Pat and this magazine were made for each other. Pat writes a blog - NoFrillsFitness, trains his ass off and loves what we call ‘proper fitness’. He is a highly experienced fitness lecturer, running solar-fitness in Cyprus. What a place to go to qualify as a personal trainer! Pat will use this mag to let off a little steam – to talk fitness without the need to hold back or be polite. If you don’t like it….don’t use the squat rack for Bicep Curls! We owe massive thanks to the guys at the mighty Diesel gym for hosting us, a great location in Canary Wharf and a great place to learn to fight...check em out www.dieselgym.co.uk, we must also stress that it wasn't us who broke the punch bag frame by doing chin ups on it.
Muscle Limits gym is the second home of our very own Peter Chown. He is a natural bodybuilding champ and may compete again if we manage to bully him into it. Muscle Limits is open 24/7 great for those who need an emergency pump at 3am. It always smells of chicken and is a proper old-school bodybuilding shed. Visit www.musclelimitsgym.co.uk
Push studios is based in Dulwich and home to Nat peros' kettlebells classes. Also great for ballroom dancing but we haven't managed to get Nat to do that on camera yet! Info - www.pushstudios.co.uk
